Fitz Family Fund for Brain Cancer Awareness and Research
Fitz Family Fund For Earl, Julianne and Ezra Fitz, the community kitchen at Gilda’s Club Nashville is a place where people from all walks of life come together to relax and eat comfort food, to laugh and sometimes to cry, to talk about the weather, about living with cancer, or anything in between.
Since Earl and Julianne’s oldest son, Ezra, was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2006, they've been finding a sense of kinship in this kitchen. They’ve also recognized the desire to do more than just cope with the diagnosis, and as Julianne quotes from an article she read, “make meaning out of an experience no one wants to have.”
Having become familiar with The Community Foundation in 1998 after reading a newspaper article and then supporting several existing funds, the Fitzs felt confident it was the right place to establish their own charitable family legacy. In the process, Julianne and Earl and their four adult children are rallying around the cause.
Through the Fitz Family Fund for Brain Cancer Awareness and Research, they have established a long-term commitment to supporting research, education and awareness for brain cancer, providing funding to organizations such as Gilda’s Club. With The Community Foundation, the Fitzs' family legacy will continue, until a cure for brain cancer is found and other cancers are eradicated.
