From Broadway legend Jennifer Holliday’s booming voice and empowering speech to Jane Eskind’s $1 million gift, the 13th annual Power of the Purse Luncheon was a hit. Over 600 people attended the March 4 event at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel to help support The Women's Fund of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. It is the largest women's luncheon in Middle Tennessee and raises money to promote economic self sufficiency, freedom from violence, and physical and emotional health, for women and girls in Middle Tennessee, through The Women’s Fund.

The announcement of Jane Eskind’s $1 million gift to the The Women's Fund caused a standing ovation. After a moving speech about battling depression and multiple sclerosis, Jennifer Holliday performed two songs at the end of her address, including “A Dream Out There With Your Name On It” and “And I’m Telling You, I’m Not Going.”
