Do you make charitable gifts?

Not a lot right now, but I want to make a lasting impact in the future. Yes, I give to support a cause or community that is special to me. Sometimes I make gifts to honor someone important to me. No, I can’t afford it. Yes, I contribute to several organizations or to my private foundation.

How often do you give?

Only when a friend or loved one passes away. I plan to give more in the future. Never. I give regularly throughout the year. Mostly during times of disaster or great need.

How much do you typically give?

10% of my income, or whatever I feel is my obligation. The amount I set aside at the end of every year for charitable giving. I don’t make charitable gifts. As much as I can. Enough to meet the charitable requests I receive.

Your attitude toward charitable giving is closest to which of the following:

I want to leave a legacy of generosity even after I die. I want maximum impact for the minimum investment…more bang for my buck. I want the cause or community I care about to have resources in the future. Charitable investments should be made strategically for the best tax benefits. Charitable gifts should be made in the name of someone special.

Which best describes you?

I want to make charitable gifts but want to be sure I’m providing for my heirs. I want to begin or continue the tradition of charitable giving in my family. I want to join with other givers to celebrate a specific person. I can’t know what my community will need in the future, but I know there will be needs. I want my name or my family to be associated with a specific charitable cause.

Call my bank or financial advisor to have them take care of it. Write a check and mail it in. Solicit friends and family for donations. Give online with a credit card through a website. Take my gift in personally, to make sure it goes to the right person.

Give whatever is most needed at the time. Donate assets such as artwork, jewelry or property. Give money. Donate stocks or a portion of my IRA. Offer my time.

I get so many fundraiser invitations and donation requests, keeping up with what I’ve given to is a challenge. I am inspired to give by someone who helped to teach me the value of giving.
